In 1891, Karl Elsener delivered the first major supply of 'soldiers knives' to the Swiss Army. The term 'Swiss Army Knife' was coined by American soldiers after World War II due to the difficulty in pronouncing its German name. By 1945, the Swiss Army Knife becomes known all over the world. US soldiers buy it in large quantities & it becomes a popular souvenir to take home.
