This is a high quality coffee maker, performing exactly as described. I chose this model, because it's the smallest carafe and I'm the only coffee drinker at home. I brew a half pot at the time and like the stop brew feature on the basket. The only downfall is that the coffee doesn't stay warm long in a half empty carafe, but that's likely with any thermal carafe. I'm still experimenting with coffee grind size, volume, and steeping time.

This is a serious coffee maker! The best home brew I have ever had. It brews a pot fast and perfectly. I really like the fact that all the parts are easily cleaned and replaced if need be.

The plastic parts..too light and probably cheap. The KBTS is by far the best one mug coffee maker: it contains in the porta-filter 12oz, the same volume as my mug. So, 12 oz in the water tank passes very fast into the portafilter that is in the closed position. I let it bloom 1-2 minutes then one opens the porta filter, the coffee pours in the mug very fast…great coffee!

Having survived 70+ years on $50 coffee makers I decided to splurge on what may be my last. Right from the packaging I was impressed with the quality (although the optional footplate is pretty kludgy). The machine looks great, appears well made, and brews a hot cup of coffee pretty quickly. I also like how simple it is - an on-off switch, and that's all. The capacity is slightly less than I'd like, but that was my choice - I should have considered the European vs North American cup size when deciding on this model. A full carafe is good for about 3 mugs. Not a real problem, just have to make another pot.
Does it make better coffee? Having tried several brands so far, I'd say the taste is marginally better than my old machine with the same brands. I'm still experimenting with quantities, etc., so more improvement may follow. But right now, for me, the jury is still out on the question of whether a slightly better taste is worth 5, 6, or even 7 times the price of a more mainstream machine.
