The Making of The Name

The Making of The Name

Originating from inside Karl Elsener's cutler workshop in 1884, Victorinox stands for quality, functionality, innovation & iconic design & has done so for more than 130 years! Victorinox comes from Karl's mother's name Victoria & inox, the international term for stainless steel. Combining the two words "Victoria" & "Inox" gives the name of the company & brand today - Victorinox.

Swiss Army Knife

Swiss Army Knife

In 1891, Karl Elsener delivered the first major supply of 'soldiers knives' to the Swiss Army. The term 'Swiss Army Knife' was coined by American soldiers after World War II due to the difficulty in pronouncing its German name. By 1945, the Swiss Army Knife becomes known all over the world. US soldiers buy it in large quantities & it becomes a popular souvenir to take home.

    Practical versus endurance

Got this to carry a RangerGrip 78 SAK while hiking. The Velcro attachment is the practical feature of this pouch. However the vinyl material that is used is very thin with no reinforcement where the belt loop is sewed on which is a weak point given the pouch is sized to carry 'large' SA knives which are heavier than mid-sized SAK such as the Trekker or the German Army for example. Consequently...can't see this pouch 'enduring' many years of outdoor service carrying a large SAK. In my view it is not up to Victorinox's standard of quality and toughness the knives have acquired.
